April 24th, 2008
Dear TCF Members,
In the spirit of friendship and as a way of honoring the memories of our children, our chapter will be holding a memorial walk Sunday, July 27th at 10am, at Veteran’s Park – South Entrance (Kuser Road). We hope not only that you will join us, but that you will also invite your friends and family members to participate. The national walk will be held July 20th in Nashville, TN.
For friends and family members who would like to join with you in the two-mile walk, make photocopies, one for each person, of the enclosed registration form for them to sign. Anyone under 18 must have an adult in attendance and a signed form. Children 5 and under do not pay a registration fee. Please turn this letter over for complete registration information.
An early registration fee of $15 includes a T-shirt and a walk-style bib on which to write your child’s name and the names of other children you are remembering as you walk. Early registration of walkers is by Monday, June 2nd. T-shirts cannot be guaranteed available after June 2nd. Registrations after July 2nd and walk-ins will be $20. T SHIRTS NOT INCLUDED
In addition, to aid our chapter’s outreach to bereaved parents, please use the enclosed registration form to collect pledges in support of your walk. Donors may add names of other persons they would like us to remember on the form. Pledges can be $5, $10, $20 or any amount—it all helps our chapter to accomplish its mission. All donations are tax deductible.
Please meet us at the walk site Court Games Pavilion —(Veteran’s Park – Kuser Road/SOUTH Entrance)—at (10am). Your Family Member Coordinator will check you in and distribute T-Shirts. The actual walk will begin promptly at 10:30. Following the walk there will be a picnic lunch provided in the Pavilion. This event will be held rain or shine – we have shelter, which will help us in the event of inclement weather.
Last year over 150 people walked to remember. It was a beautiful event and watching the sea of red and white t-shirts was quite an emotional experience.
Please note that this is event is quite an undertaking. Consider giving back to our chapter by volunteering your time. There are many ways to help - coordination of the pre-event activities, set-up the day of the event, clean up etc. A sign up sheet will be passed around at the May meeting, we urge you to consider taking an active role so that this event can continue for future parents that find themselves on this journey. Please try to join us at 6pm before our June 2nd and July 7th Meetings to help coordinate this event.
We look forward to seeing you there!
